Horizontal Stripes and How to Wear Them

This post is kindly sponsored by Shein. All opinions are 100% my own.
Have you ever told yourself you can’t wear stripes unless they are vertical?
It IS true that vertical stripes are slimming. And horizontal stripes CAN appear to widen.
BUT you can still wear horizontal stripes!!

Horizontal stripes don’t always have to be so bad. You just have to follow a few simple tips.

[one]

THINK THIN.

Thin stripes don’t quite make the illusion of widening where thick stripes do.
The shirt I’m wearing here from Shein has horizontal type pin stripes so I don’t have to worry about looking wide.
[two]
STICK TO SIMPLE COLORS.
Try to go for muted colors or black and whites. If you choose a bright color stripe, look that it is paired with a color in the same family or a white stripe. Bright stripes are loud and will attract attention. You want the stripes to casually wear on you and not be your statement piece.
Here are a few items that follow this rule.

[three]
LOOK FOR DETAILS & EMBELLISHMENTS.
Horizontal striped shirts with pockets, buttons, appliques, ruffles, etc. are a perfect way to wear the stripes. Instead of drawing the eye to the stripes, you are drawing the eye to the details.
I love these detailed striped tops.

TRY VARYING THICKNESSES.
If you see a striped blouse that attracts your attention but it doesn’t follow the thin stripe rule, varying thicknesses for stripes can usually work well. Just make sure the thick stripes are in places you don’t mind appearing a little wider (across the chest 😉 or shoulders).
Check out these ones.
